Sunday 6th July 2008 Caragabal Mens Open Tournament was held in perfect conditions. Chairman Tony Pollock thanked the 20 volunteers who were available to get the course in order for the event, he also thanked the sponsors for their generosity which included Graincorp, Intersales Temora, Crutchers IGA, Grenfell, PFC Ag Caragabal/Grenfell, Olivers Hardware Grenfell, Rabo Bank and Gunns Menswear from Forbes, it was certainly appreciated, without the sponsors they would not be able to hold the event.

The ladies on the table who sorted the winners and especially the ladies for their tremendous effort preparing the lunches and high tea.

There were 51 starters throughout the day and a huge thank you to the Grenfell club for their bus load of players, they made up the majority of starters, as well as golfers from Forbes, Parkes, Temora, Ariah Park and our local players. The captain Mitch Pollock showed us a superb display of trophies, a great effort.

The winner of A Division, the 27holes stratch event was Mark Crutcher with a score of 112, Grenfell, the runner-up was Peter Heinrich with 115, Temora. The 27 holes handicap event was A Melisi with 98 nett, Forbes and the runner-up was S Ryder with 101 nett, Grenfell.

The 18 holes scratch event winner was Rob Coleman with 78, Grenfell, the 18 holes handicap event winner was Jono Baker with 69 nett, Grenfell and the 18 holes stableford winner was Mitch Pollock with 38 points, Caragabal.

The nine holes handicap event winner was John Grogan with 32 nett, Grenfell. The winner of the long drive on the 8th fairway was Jono Baker and NTP on the 7th hole was C Brooks, Ariah Park. Thanks to Peter Heinrich for Intersales for presenting the trophies.

B Division winner for 27 holes scratch event was David Armitage with 120, Caragabal, the runner-up was Angus Taylor with 122, Caragabal. The 27 holes handicap event winner was Sam Myers from a count back from Trevor Cooper with 97.5 nett and Trevor Cooper was the runner-up.

The 18 holes scratch event was Dustyn Hocking with 82, Grenfell, and the 18 holes handicap event winner was Mark Hughes with 67 nett, Grenfell. The 18 holes stableford event was Josh Hewen with 39 points, Grenfell. Nine holes handicap event winner was Paul Lynch with 30.5 nett, Caragabal.

The longest drive on the 12th fairway was Angus Taylor and NTP on the 15th hole was Errol Perkins. Thanks to Mark Crutcher for IGA for presenting the trophies.

C Division 27 holes scratch event winner was Tim Hazell with 138, Grenfell, the runner-up was Bernie McNickle with 141, Caragabal.

The 27 holes handicap event winner was John Turner with 99 nett, Grenfell and the runner-up was Stephen Cooper with 103 nett, Caragabal. The 18 holes scratch winner was Steve Mitton with 93, Grenfell and the 18 holes handicap event was Paul Taylor with 70 nett, Grenfell.

The 18 holes stableford event winner was Stan Armitage with 32 points, Caragabal. The nine holes handicap event winner was Luke Melisi with 33 nett, Forbes. Winner of the long drive on 4th fairway was Steve Mitton and NTP on the 7th hole was Greg Brain, Caragabal.

The teams of four winners were Jono Baker, Mark Crutcher, Errol Perkins, and Daniel Cooper with 278 nett, congratulations to all the winners and hope you enjoyed the day out on the course. CCR was 67.

A men’s team of bowlers travelled to Cowra for their Presidents day and the team representing Caragabal lost their game in the morning and won 15-8 in the afternoon, well done. There were eight bowlers of men and women on the local green who enjoyed a very socialable afternoon.

The raffle winners were C Brooke from Ariah Park and Robert Napier from Caragabal.
